Field Mill: Holland to stay in charge

Mansfield have confirmed caretaker manager Paul Holland will remain in the Field Mill hot-seat for the next two games.

Holland took over from Billy Dearden earlier in March, but he has impressed Mansfield chief executive Stephen Booth during his time in charge.

Mansfield currently occupy the final relegation spot in League Two, but they enjoy the luxury of games in hand over the teams above them.

And Booth admits Holland has played his way into the list of long-term candidates with the Stags.

Solution

"My preferred solution was that I wanted an element of consistency but I felt the club needed more managerial experience than Paul Holland could offer," said Booth.

"Paul always remained a potential candidate for the long-term role and results and performances in the two games since assuming the caretaker role have done him no harm whatsoever.

"It would be fair to say he is now a prime candidate, a view that has been enhanced by the reaction of the squad who have unanimously endorsed Paul and his contribution.

"I have decided he will remain in charge for the next two games and I will then review the situation."

Holland lost his first match in charge 1-0 to Hereford, but Mansfield then won 2-1 at Bradford at the weekend to move to within three points of League Two safety.
