London Road: Lights out for Gnapka

Darragh MacAnthony has branded out-of-contract Claude Gnapka's wage demands as 'unreasonable'.

The Peterborough chairman is keen to tie the full-back down to a new deal before he becomes a free agent at the end of the season, but has revealed that a compromise now looks unlikely.

The French defender is believed to have turned down a good offer to stay at London Road, and looks set to leave the League One-bound club.

Luton Town, Aberdeen and Sheffield Wednesday have all expressed an interest in Gnapka, and MacAnthony admits that he is not prepared to be held ransom in order to keep the player.

Unhappy

"The club's policy on unhappy players is that we don't want them," the Posh chief told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

"He was offered a great new contract this year and has messed us around ever since. Myself and the gaffer want to sign up our best players on long-term contracts and at the same time look after them as a reward for the job they have done so far.

"However I will not be dictated to by any player or his agent and refuse to have players using bids from rival clubs thrown at me as a way to get more money for themselves.

"I also personally feel that a player who is either injured or suspended for over 35 per cent of the time he has been with us should not be setting unreasonable demands either, but when he leaves, best of luck to him."
