Chester owner Stephen Vaughan has confirmed the club have tabled an official bid for Vauxhall Motors striker Paul Taylor.
The Blues have been monitoring the 22-year-old, who scored 18 goals this season, for some time now and Vaughan is hopeful of signing a potent goalscorer this season.
"We've tabled a bid for Paul Taylor and I've spoken to the Vauxhall Motors' secretary, chairman, and their manager, Carl Macauley," Vaughan told the Chester Evening Leader.
"We feel we've submitted a fair bid and we're hoping to receive a positive response very soon."
Meanwhile, boss Simon Davies has revealed Kevin Sandwith has rejected the offer of a new one-year deal - but defender Paul Linwood has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract.
The 24-year-old joined the Deva Stadium outfit in 2006 and was voted Player of the Season for the last campaign.
"It's nice to have your future sorted. The club's done everything for me so I'm made up to have signed," Linwood said.
