Chairman Norman Beverley paid tribute to the Stockport players after they secured promotion to League One.

The Hatters won a thrilling play-off final at Wembley 3-2 to return to the third tier of English football after a three-year absence.

Beverley was thrilled with Stockport's performance but admitted that it had been a tense finale after Adam Rundle's goal for Rochdale 13 minutes from time.

"I'm just very, very proud. It's a great day in my life and a great day in the history of Stockport County," Beverley told Sky Sports News.

Describing the nerves he felt, Beverley added: "I had no fingers left. We played well, Rochdale did their best, but it was our day."

Dickinson delight

Liam Dickinson, who scored Stockport's all-important third, also expressed his joy at the final whistle.

"It is a dream come true," said Dickinson. "Just to be here with all these fans, it's unbelievable."
