Martin Butler has informed Grimsby Town he would like to leave the club as his commute to and from the club has become untenable.

Butler travels up to between three to four hours from his home in Worcester to train and play for The Mariners, a situation which he is looking to resolve.

Grimsby had hoped over-night stops would ease Butler's travel issues, however, the player is now looking for a change of clubs rather than a change of habit.

Down in the dumps

"Martin communicated to the club last week that the travelling was getting him down, stating that by the time he had finished travelling to the ground it was affecting his game," chairman John Fenty told the club's official website.

"You might have noticed that at the beginning of the season Martin was particularly bright and he had made the extra effort to stop over.

"Martin is obligated to turn up for at least two training sessions per week, subject to the manager's request, and he is finding this difficult to do.

"We spoke to Martin about stopping over and different forms of transport, but at moment in time, Martin doesn't see that there is a solution to his problem.

"We are working on how to resolve this as we speak. If Martin isn't prepared to stop over in between training sessions then it makes the situation almost impossible to resolve."
