Fryatt: Icing on the cake
Leicester, Leeds and Scunthorpe are all through to the second round of the Northern Section of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
At Victoria Park high-flying Leicester City made light work of Hartlepool with an impressive second half display.
After Steve Howard broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half there was no looking back for The Foxes.
Nicky Adams added a second on 66 minutes before Matty Fryatt added the icing on the cake with a close-range finish in the closing stages.
Leeds United were made to fight all the way by a plucky Bradford City in a 2-1 win at Elland Road.
Gary McAllister's side forged ahead through Andy Robinson's penalty with substitute Luciano Becchio adding a second for The Whites.
Barry Conlon pulled one back for The Bantams on 71 minutes to set up a grandstand finish, but Leeds held on.
League One leaders Oldham Athletic are out following a penalty shoot-out defeat to Morecambe at Boundary Park.
Danny Whitaker fired The Latics ahead, but Stuart Drummond's leveller soon after ensured penalties.
Morecambe progressed after Lewis Alessandra missed from the spot giving the visitors a 5-4 win in the shoot-out.
Edrissa Sonko's goal shortly after half-time at Prenton Park gave Tranmere Rovers a 1-0 success over Accrington Stanley.
Crewe cruised to a comfortable 3-0 success over 10-man Macclesfield to secure their place in the second round.
Steven Schumacher netted early on and things went from bad to worse when Martin Gritton was shown his second yellow card.
Further efforts from Billy Jones and Daniel O'Donnell meant Crewe could take their foot off the pedal in the second half.
Leon McSweeny's early goal was the difference at Edgeley Park as Stockport secured a 1-0 win over Port Vale.
Scunthorpe snatched a win from the jaws of defeat thanks to Paul Hayes' injury-time brace against Notts County.
Richard Butcher's ninth-minute effort looked like sending County through for much of the match until Hayes' heroics.
