Rotherham boss Mark Robins has been named the Coca-Cola League Two manager of the month for August.

Robins was handed the accolade after emerging from a four-man short-list which included Dagenham & Redbridge's John Still, Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson and Bury boss Alan Knill.

The Millers began the League Two campaign with a 17-point penalty imposed by the Football League due to their financial difficulties, and have also moved to the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield to play their home fixtures.

But they have started in impressive style, with three wins and a draw from their opening four matches to substantially reduce the deficit.

Robins has also guided the club through to the third round of the Carling Cup after victories on penalties against Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves.

They will now take on a third Championship outfit with Southampton handed a lengthy trip to Yorkshire.

Momentum

Robins told Sky Sports News: "I'm pleased with the start we've made, although it's just a start and we need to keep that momentum up.

"I've got to pay tribute to the players and the rest of the staff. I'm delighted with what they've done so far, but no-one is resting on their laurels.

"We've got to try and get back to positive points as quickly as possible and then take it from there.

"Avoiding relegation was our ultimate aim before the season kicked off, but we'll reassess it as and when we claw those points back."
