Notts County boss Ian McParland is concentrating on improving the standard of football at Meadow Lane, as opposed to worrying about results.

The Magpies are yet to record a win this season and have just three points to show for their efforts so far.

Despite the poor start, McParland insists it is only a matter of time before the club enjoy a reversal in fortunes.

"I've been very pleased with the performances, despite the results and we've had a very hard start to the season, with Bradford away on the first day and we've just played Shrewsbury at home, two much-fancied sides for promotion," he told skysports.com.

"The most encouraging thing about the start to the season is that we've been in every game we've played and it's just a few mistakes that have cost us points."

Targets

The Magpies narrowly missed out on securing a loan deal for Wolves midfielder Mark Davies on transfer deadline day, but McParland admits he will revive his interest in the 20-year-old once the loan window reopens.

"We are just looking to get Saturday (against Bournemouth) out of the way and then I'll speak to Mick (McCarthy) sometime next week about bringing Mark to the club," he added.

"He's definitely a player I'd like to bring in. We've been playing good football, passing the ball around a bit and he can certainly pass the ball about."

McParland's pursuit of Davies is driven by his desire to play attractive football this season, as well as improving on last year's 21st place finish in League Two.

"My ambition for this season is to improve on the football we played last year and improve the club on and off the field and build for a mid-table finish," he said.

"Anything after that will be a bonus."
