Bishop: On target for Bury

Rochdale, Darlington and Bury all claimed the scalps of League One clubs in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Carlisle's miserable form continued as they lost to Rochdale on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Spotland.

Michael Bridges and Gary Madine had netted for the Cumbrians in normal time, with Lee Thorpe and Chris Dagnall striking for Rochdale.

Alan White found the target in Darlington's 1-0 victory over Huddersfield, with Gary Roberts sent off for the Terriers.

Bury, unbeaten in League Two this season, beat Stockport by the same scoreline with Andy Bishop netting the decisive goal.

Mike Newell's first game in charge of Grimsby ended in disappointment as the Mariners lost 2-1 at Scunthorpe.

Sam Togwell and Ian Morris grabbed the goals for The Iron just before half-time and Grimsby could not force an equaliser after Nick Hegarty had reduced their arrears.

Morecambe also advanced to the next round after seeing off Chester on penalties.

Morecambe, who had previously knocked out League One high-flyers Oldham, drew 1-1 with Chester over 90 minutes after Rene Howe's opener had been cancelled out by Kevin Ellison.
