Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn has resigned after two turbulent years at the helm of the Coca-Cola League Two outfit.

Mostyn and vice-chairman Steve Sly have both decided to leave the Cherries' board of directors three months after steering the club out of their six-month administration.

"During the past few weeks I have given a great deal of thought to my position," said Mostyn.

"It was always my desire to carry on as chairman in order to assist (new owner) Paul Baker through the transition.

"I now believe the time is right for me to step down as chairman and allow Paul the freedom to develop the club in his own style, whilst also encouraging new investment."

Support

The Cherries began the season with a 17-point deduction for going into administration and their participation in League Two this term was still in doubt two days before the season opener.

A club statement on Bournemouth's official website added: "There is no doubt that without their inclination and support during this period, we may not have been a football league club today.

"The restructure of the board of directors will take place over the next few days and a formal announcement will be made early next week."
