Wright: No happy return
Morecambe ensured there was no happy return for Mark Wright as they claimed a narrow 2-1 win at Chester.
Wright, who returned to Chester for his third stint as manager on Friday, saw his side fall two goals behind before a spirited fightback saw the visitors hanging on for victory as both sides ended the game with 10 men.
The opener came in the 32nd minute through Craig Stanley who latched onto Stewart Drummond's pass, after a clever dummy from Rene Howe, to slot the ball past keeper John Danby.
The advantage was doubled after 56 minutes after a rash challenge by Laurence Wilson on Danny Carlton gifted the visitors a penalty. The spot-kick was dispatched by Howe despite Danby going the right way.
Chester gave themselves hope with a goal on the hour-mark through Eddie Johnson, who scored his first goal for the club with a downward header into a bottom corner.
Ryan Lowe was denied by a great save from Barry Roche, and eight minutes from time Kevin Ellison and Danny Adams were both dismissed.
