David McCracken believes it is vital that League Two promotion hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers retain the services of manager Peter Taylor.

The Chairboys are currently in second spot, level on points with leaders Darlington, although along with success has come interest in their experienced manager.

Former Crystal Palace and England Under-21 boss Taylor has recently been linked with moves away from Adams Park, speculation Wanderers captain McCracken believes is unwelcome.

Speculation has continued to mount of Taylor's future, with the vacant managerial position at Watford mentioned as a possible destination and Scottish defender McCracken believes it is recognition of the club's fine season.

"It's vital the club keep hold of the gaffer. It's great if the there is other clubs sniffing around for him because it shows we are doing well, but the club needs a bit of stability, especially if we are going to finish the job off this season and achieve promotion," he stated.

Taylor took over the reins at Adams Park last May, succeeding Paul Lambert, after he failed to reach the play-off final last season and McCracken believes the signings he has made have helped to fire their promotion push this campaign.

Settled quickly

"Every manager is different and the new gaffer came in and he brought in a few new players, which every manager does when he starts at a club, and they've settled really quickly, which I think helps," he continued.

"When you bring in three or four players to a club sometimes it takes a few months for things to gel, but they've come in and done really well from the start."

The Chairboys remain unbeaten in League Two this season and despite media talk of them continuing their invincible form McCracken is taking it one step at a time.

"It's something that we are delighted to be tagged with really, but it's not something we are concentrating on. We are just taking one game at a time and we know that the run could finish in our next game.

"We will look to continue what we have been doing and we are a tough side to beat, from front to back. The defence has been getting a lot of praise recently, but it's a team effort and the defence starts from the front, with the attackers working hard to chase the ball down."
