Notts County midfielder Richard Butcher has been ruled out until February after suffering a fractured metatarsal.

Butcher picked up the injury during the Magpies' 1-1 FA Cup draw with Kettering on Sunday and was replaced in the first half.

The League Two club had been awaiting the outcome of scans before confirming the extent of the 27-year-old's injury.

He will now undergo surgery on Wednesday evening and the Magpies expect Butcher to return to the first-team fold in February.

"I'm really frustrated at picking up this injury, and right now it is just a case of getting my head around everything," Butcher told the club's official website.

"I'll be adopting a positive frame of mind and I'll be putting everything into my rehab to make sure I'm back in action as soon as possible."

Meanwhile, midfielder Lewis Neal has returned to Preston North End after the Magpies opted not to extend his loan deal.
