League Two outfit Morecambe recorded their biggest win of the season as they came from behind to thrash rivals Macclesfield 4-1.

Sammy McIlroy's side had the worst possible start when they went behind to a close-range goal from Izak Reid after just two minutes but they stormed back as they hit four for the first time this term.

Henry McStay brought them level with a close-range volley from 17 minutes after Craig Stanley's free-kick was flicked on.

Striker Danny Carlton then made it 2-1 from another Stanley set-piece as a left-wing corner was flicked on by Rene Howe to give him a free header six yards out.

The Shrimps then went on to dominate with John Brain saving smartly from two Jim Bentley efforts before Stewart Drummond ran on to Neil Wainwright's cross to head the home side into a 3-1 lead on 62 minutes.

Rene Howe added to the visitors' woes 11 minutes from time by converting Wainwright's pass.
