Kevin Nicholls has insisted the only thing Luton's players are thinking about is keeping the club in the Football League.

Luton look set to be relegated to the Blue Square Premier as they are 11 points from safety with just six games of the season remaining.

However, Hatters skipper Nicholls has stressed that his men are not fretting about their futures and will remain committed to the cause until the end of the campaign.

He told skysports.com: "The group is quite close knit and no one has mentioned what they will be doing next summer.

"There are players on loan and players out of contract, but there is a large group that have contracts with the club beyond this season, so it will be interesting to see what happens should we go down.

"It is hard to judge if you don't know what is happening and the lads have been great."

Nicholls admits that having the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy against Scunthorpe to look forward to this weekend has kept spirits high.

"The trip to Wembley has been a huge bonus, but the way that they've approached things has been great and that has shown with how well we've done, especially with the amount of injuries to key players that we have had to contend with as well."

The Hatters have never fallen out of the Football League in their history and Nicholls does not want to break that tradition this season.

"It would be a massive blow for the club, as they haven't ever dropped out of the Football League. No one wants to be part of making that sort of history, even though we had such a terrible blow at the start of the season (deducted 30 points).

"I'd like to think that this club would bounce back immediately and they would try to keep everyone here, but you just don't know what is happening behind the scenes.

"The other non-league teams down there are getting stronger every season and we've seen sides go down and struggle to return in the past.

"It isn't something we have thought about really, even though many think we have, but we have just been so positive this season that it hasn't really worried us about what could happen next season.

"We have been so strong mentally as a group that the thought hasn't even entered our heads this season and people find that hard to believe."
