Notts County have snapped up former Nottingham Forest striker Craig Westcarr on a one-year contract.

Westcarr has agreed a return to the Football League after spending the last three seasons at Kettering.

He scored twice against Fulham in the FA Cup in January and Magpies boss Ian McParland is happy with his latest recruit.

"I've known Craig for a long time, having worked with him at the City Ground, and I don't think he has come even close to fulfilling his potential," McParland told the club's official website.

Big chance

"He's a different type of player to those we have already and will offer us competition for places on both flanks, and down the middle.

"I think his best position is as a central striker and apart from having the ability to deliver a great ball from set-plays, he's a good footballer with plenty of pace who can score goals.

"I've had a good chat to Craig about the fact that he hasn't achieved anywhere near as much as he should have done for a player with his ability.

"He knows this is his big chance. We are offering him a lifeline and, although he's taking a pay cut to come and join us, he will get his rewards if he does the business."
