Darlington boss Steve Staunton admits his team need to start picking up points quickly in the battle to climb off the bottom of the table.

Staunton steered the Quakers to their only league win of the season shortly after being installed as Colin Todd's replacement last month, but they have still only picked up five points from 15 games.

A 2-1 defeat at Hereford United on Saturday left Darlington nine points adrift of safety and Staunton has warned there needs to be a swift improvement.

"The players have to stand up to be counted and get a clean sheet," said Staunton. "There were some good bits and pieces, but until we can keep a clean sheet we are going to be rooted to the bottom.

"It's getting close now and we need to start picking up points. The players have got to realise we're into November now.

"There's a lot of hard work to be done and we can't keep giving the opposition two-goal starts."
