Aldershot have appointed Kevin Dillon as their new manager.

Dillon replaces Gary Waddock at the helm after Waddock left to take over at Wycombe last month.

Former Southampton full-back Jason Dodd was in caretaker charge of Aldershot for four games, but he decided to return to St Mary's to take an academy role at Southampton.

Aldershot have now turned to former Reading assistant manager Dillon and he has been handed a two-year deal at the League Two outfit.

Dillon's first game in charge will be at home to Macclesfield on Saturday and the club's acting chairman John Leppard insists he was the stand-out candidate after interviews for the role.

"We went through the interview process last week and were impressed with the quality of applicants," said Leppard.

"Kevin's organisational qualities and professionalism was head and shoulders above the rest.

"He has done extensive research regarding the club and has watched the team play on a number of occasions.

"The whole appointment is a progressive move for the club and we are delighted to have Kevin on board as our new manager."
