Hudson: Must be patient

Grimsby's recent signing Mark Hudson has set his sights on winning a first-team place after impressing in the reserves.

The former Rotherham United midfielder was plucked from non-league Gainsborough Trinity at the end of November after he failed to find a new club on leaving the Millers in the summer.

He is anxious to be given a chance to show what he can do, but understands that he will have to be patient.

"I'm travelling from Huddersfield at the moment, which isn't ideal, but I've settled in really quickly and now I'm just desperate to get some first-team games under my belt," Hudson told skysports.com.

"It is up to me to impress in training and during reserve matches, so hopefully I'll get the nod soon.

"The lads who are currently in the side are playing well, with a mini three-game unbeaten run going, so I know that I will have to be patient and wait for my chance, then it is up to me to take it."

The Mariners narrowly avoided relegation last season and things do not look much rosier this term, as they currently sit second from bottom in League Two, but the experienced midfielder insists the squad is more than capable of competing in the fourth tier.

"From what I've seen in training so far there is plenty here to turn things around, but confidence is a little low and one good result might give us that lift we need," he added.

"We've improved performance-wise in the last couple of weeks too, so we are moving in the right direction now."
