Crewe starlet Max Clayton has agreed professional terms with the club.

The 16-year-old hit the headlines last year when he was the reportedly the target of Liverpool.

The Premier League club's stance angered Dario Gradi and the Crewe chief has now persuaded Clayton to sign a two-year professional deal.

Clayton and fellow England youth team player Nick Powell will start their full-time deals in the summer.

Crewe chairman John Bowler said: "We are obviously delighted that a group of promising young players here, including Max, have agreed to commit their futures with us.

"It goes without saying that we hope their continued development will one day see them play in the Crewe Alexandra first team."
