Early leaders Torquay maintained their 100 per cent record on Saturday, while Stevenage claimed a historic first Football League win.

Torquay made it three league wins out of three thanks to goals from Ben Stevens and Chris Zebroski against Bradford, who saw Robbie Threlfall sent off for foul and abusive language.

Charlie Griffin and Michael Bostwick wrote their names into history as their goals helped Stevenage beat Stockport 3-1 and claim their first-ever league win.

Danny Whitaker hit a hat-trick as Chesterfield beat Hereford 4-0 at the B2net Stadium to leap up to second in the table.

Adam Le Fondre notched a remarkable four goals as Rotherham came from 3-1 down to beat Cheltenham 6-4 and move up to third.

In a day of hat-tricks, Sean McConville also netted three times as Accrington claimed their first league win of the campaign against Macclesfield to jump up to sixth in the table.

Shrewsbury lost their 100 per cent league record and dropped to fourth after a 1-1 home draw to Aldershot, while Port Vale moved up a place to fifth with a 3-1 win at Southend thanks to goals from Justin Richards, Louis Dodds and Marc Richards.

Wycombe dropped to seventh after being held to a goalless home stalemate by Oxford, although Gary Waddock's side have still not conceded a league goal.

Lincoln jumped off the bottom thanks to a 1-0 victory at previously unbeaten Gillingham, while Crewe also notched their first points of the campaign with a 7-0 thumping of struggling Barnet, who dropped to the bottom with the heavy defeat.

An 81st minute Greg Pearson penalty won it for Burton against Morecambe after Aaron Webster and Andrew Fleming had both notched braces at the Pirelli Stadium, while David Worrall rescued a point for Bury after Steve Guinan had given Northampton a 33rd minute lead via the penalty spot.
