Burton Albion have denied reports that Leicester City defender Tom Parkes is set to rejoin the club on loan.

Albion have problems in central defence with Nathan Stanton out for around six weeks after tearing a hamstring muscle against Hereford on Saturday, while Darren Moore is nursing bumps, bruises and cuts after careering into an advertising board towards the end of the same game.

Tony James is the only other recognised centre-half at the Pirelli Stadium.

Parkes had a successful loan spell with the League Two club last season and was a spectator against Hereford, but Burton boss Paul Peschisolido insists his presence was merely coincidence.

"I think it's a bit early to be going down the route of an emergency loan signing, especially as I expect Paul Boertien to be back in training this week," said Peschisolido.

"Continuity is an important part of the set-up we've created and sometimes bringing in a player who is not going to be here for the long term can upset the apple cart.

"Tom Parkes would be a different case in point because he knows most of the lads, but it was just a coincidence that he was at the Hereford game. He was at a loose end and just asked for a ticket so he could come along and watch."
