Port Vale striker Justin Richards is desperate to see manager Micky Adams stay on at Vale Park, with a possible takeover of the club still in the pipeline.

New York businessman Mike Newton is hoping to take control of the League Two outfit and there have been reports that Adams may leave if the proposed takeover is successful.

However, after just missing out on the play-offs last season, the former Leicester and Coventry boss has steered Vale into the top four this term, with just one defeat in their opening five games.

In-form striker Justin Richards, who has notched five goals since joining from Cheltenham in the summer, feels that losing Adams would be a huge blow for the club and is hoping he can be persuaded to stay on.

"I don't know anything about the takeover, but the manager is obviously a big factor at this football club," he told skysports.com.

"People talk about players leaving all the time, but losing the gaffer is equally, if not more, important to this club."

Gelling

Richards has managed to strike up a great partnership with namesake Marc, with the duo contributing over half of the club's goals so far this season, and the 29-year-old insists that they can get even better with time.

"It is just one of those things really and we seem to be gelling quite well as a partnership," he added.

"Marc scored a lot of goals for this club last season, but hopefully I can help contribute myself in that area and take the pressure off him a bit.

"There is still room for improvement, though, and hopefully we can continue to get better and better."
