Macclesfield midfielder keen to build on promising start to season

Macclesfield's in-form midfielder Hamza Bencherif is hoping that his impressive start to the season will reignite his international career. The former Algerian Under-21 international was on the brink of being selected for the senior squad when he suffered a fractured ankle in December last year. He is now back to his best in a more advanced role this season, scoring five goals to date and he admits that he would love to represent his country again. "In a player's career there are a number of different ends, with two of those being your club and you country," Bencherif told skysports.com. "Playing for your club allows you to show what you can do and progress as a player week in week out, but pulling on the shirt for your country is a completely different experience. "I was lucky enough to do just that for the Under-21 and youth levels, but Algeria is going through a transitional period now after the World Cup, with a number of different players being used, so I would love to be a part of that. "I know what I have to do to get there, but I need to focus on short-term goals such as getting back to 100% first before looking at the long-term ambitions."
