McGregor: Experienced pro
Mark McGregor has issued a come-and-get-me plea to all Football League clubs after parting ways with Port Vale.
The versatile 31-year-old is on the lookout for a new club after Vale boss Lee Sinnott elected not to offer the player fresh terms at the end of last season.
McGregor, who has played close to 500 games in a career that has encompassed spells at Wrexham, Burnley, Blackpool and Vale, insists he left the club on amicable terms.
"When Lee Sinnott came in we were in a difficult position," McGregor told skysports.com.
"I played the first 20 games but at the end of the season the manager said he wanted to bring in his own players - which is fair enough.
"I left on good terms and with no complaints."
McGregor has spent his career based in the north of England but eager to emphasise a 'have boots will travel' mentality, he would be willing to move in pursuit of regular football.
Having accrued a wealth of experience in both League One and Two, McGregor admits he is surprised he has yet to find himself a new club.
"I'm only 31, I'm in my prime as a centre-half really and I've made nearly 500 appearances," he added.
"I thought with my experience I'd be fixed up by now and seeing the players go back to pre-season training makes you even hungrier.
"I've played in the north throughout my career but I've got a 'have boots will travel' philosophy so geography won't be a factor.
"Hopefully my versatility will work in my favour. I've played at right-back and centre-half most of the time but I can also do a job at left-back - or as a holding midfielder."
Competition to find a new club is as fierce as ever this summer and while McGregor would love to continue his career in League One, he concedes a move to a League Two or even a Conference club would not be a problem.
"Ideally you want to play at as high a level as possible but I'm just desperate to get back playing again.
"If that's in the Football League or in the Conference then it won't be a problem.
"I know I can still do a good job, so it's just a case of getting something sorted now."
