Walsall moved six points clear at the top of League Two on Saturday following a 1-0 win at Hereford.

The Saddlers capitalised on second-placed Lincoln's slipping to a 3-1 home defeat to Dave Penney's Darlington.

Chris Westwood was the matchwinner at Edgar Street - the defender hitting home in the 63rd minute.

John Schofield's Lincoln suffered a third straight defeat to slip further behind the leaders.

With the half time interval pending at Sincil Bank, Darren Holloway gave Darlington the lead in the 43rd minute, and Michael Cummins doubled that lead ten minutes after the restart.

Simon Johnson put the result beyond doubt twenty minutes from time, before Paul Mayo (82) pulled back a consolation for the hosts.

There's no quick fix for Paul Ince at Moss Rose - Macclesfield remain rooted to the foot after going down 3-2 at home to second-from-bottom Boston.

Goals flowed early on in the basement battle - strikes from United's Paul Ellender (3) and Drewe Broughton (18) sandwiched Colin Heath's penalty (17).

Mark Greaves doubled the lead five minutes before half time, leading Town facing an uphill struggle. When they did reduce the arrears it was too little too late as Carl Regan notched in time added on at the end of the match.

Swindon leapfrogged Wycombe into third place following a 1-0 victory, secured by Christian Roberts's 62nd minute penalty.

The Chairboys were pegged back by Grimsby, who took a 71st minute lead through Gary Jones.

The advantage proved short-lived, however, as six minutes later Wycombe equalised as Scott Golbourne got on to the scoresheet.

Things went from bad to worse for Grimsby when they were reduced to ten-men following Tom Newey's dismissal for a professional foul, but the visitors held out.

Elsewhere, Notts County defeated Wrexham 2-1 through goals from Andy Parkinson (37) and Jason Lee (60). Chris Llwellyn replied for the visitors five minutes after Lee's strike, but to no avail.

MK Dons and Peterborough confirmed their play off credentials with wins over Shrewsbury and Mansfield respectively.

Gareth Edds (28) and Clive Platt (58) earned The Dons a 2-0 victory at The National Hockey Stadium, while Peterborough triumphed at Field Mill through goals from Aaron McLean (39) and Danny Crow (67).

Bury's own play off bid faltered following a 2-0 home defeat to Bristol Rovers, with Lewis Haldane (74) and Richard Walker (86) on target for the visitors.

Tresor Kandol's hat-trick for Barnet against Rochdale at Underhill saw The Bees move further clear of the relegation issue.

Darrell Clarke gave Dale a 22nd minute lead, but goals from Kandol (39) & (49) turned the match on its head.

Glenn Murray equalised for the visitors ten minutes later, before the win was confirmed by Kandol's third goal a minute into time added on at the end of the game.

Hartlepool also secured a late win - 2-1 at ten-man Accrington Stanley.

Stanley appeared to be in the driving seat through Andy Todd's first half goal, but the turning point was Jay Harris's 71st minute dismissal for spitting.

The visitors capitalised immediately through Efion Williams and Richie Humphreys's 90th minute strike sent the visiting supporters home delighted.
