Posh acquire Daggers

Peterborough United have signed the Dagenham & Redbridge pair of defender Shane Blackett and striker Craig Mackail-Smith.

The duo have left the Conference leaders to make the jump to League Two with The Posh, with director of football Barry Fry having agreed an undisclosed fee for both players last month.

Though Blackett and Mackail-Smith were identified as targets by former London Road boss Keith Alexander, the new players will be out to show their worth to new Peterborough player/manager Darren Ferguson.

Centre-back Blackett and goalscorer Mackail-Smith have both signed two-and-a-half year contracts with their new club.

They are joined at London Road by midfielder Gavin Strachan, who has made his Peterborough loan move from League Two rivals Hartlepool United a permanent arrangement.

The 28-year-old, who had previous spells with Coventry City and Southend United, has signed a contract until the end of the season with Ferguson's side.
