Simpson: Langmead boost
Shrewsbury Town have been handed a boost with the news Kelvin Langmead has signed a new two-year contract, skysports.com understands.
The versatile 23-year-old, who can play in a variety of positions, had been linked with a number of League One clubs since the close of last season.
However, following productive talks with the club's management he has concurred on fresh terms to stay at the ProStar Stadium.
Langmead is the club's longest serving player and last term clocked up his 200th appearance in a Shrews shirt.
Simpson's next job will be to fend off Colchester's bid to land influential front man Grant Holt.
Free-scoring Grant has been the subject of bids from Us boss Paul Lambert but under no pressure to sell, Simpson is determined to keep hold of his first choice striker.
Holt is not the only Shrews player to attract interest from elsewhere, with soon to be out-of-contract winger Chris Humphrey also on the radar of clubs further up the football pyramid.
The talented wide man has been one of the club's more impressive performers over the past couple of years and given his contractual situation is a target for a number of other sides.
Skysports.com understands Shrewsbury have already rejected a bid from Blackpool and could yet have to fend off further offers to convince him to stay at the ProStar Stadium.
