Stockport County have signed youngster Anthony Pilkington to a short-term contract at Edgeley Park.

The 18-year-old has joined The Hatters on an initial six-month deal after impressing during his time in training with the League Two club.

The striker has been playing his football in North West Counties League Division One with Greater Manchester club Atherton Collieries, having recently struck a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over FC United of Manchester.

Hatters boss Jim Gannon believes Pilkington will prove a valuable addition to the squad.

"Anthony's an excellent player," Gannon told the club's official website. "He's been training with us a few times and he's a decent prospect."
