League leaders Leeds left it late in midweek before snatching a dramatic victory on home soil.

Colchester, Norwich, Swindon and Walsall all prolonged their recent fine form during the latest round of League One action.

Elsewhere, there were welcome victories for struggling Tranmere and Wycombe in their battle to avoid the drop.

Leeds remain in full control of the League One title race, but were thankful for a last-minute effort from Max Gradel at Elland Road on Tuesday as they edged out Leyton Orient 1-0.

Charlton remain six points adrift of the Whites after they prevailed 4-2 in a topsy-turvy contest against Bristol Rovers.

Colchester are up to third as goals from Kevin Lisbie and Clive Platt saw them inflict a sixth straight defeat on hapless Stockport.

Norwich are now fourth, with the Canaries seeing off lowly Brighton 4-1 to record a seventh win in nine outings.

Free-scoring Huddersfield slip after they came undone at Swindon, with the Robins prevailing 2-1 at the County Ground.

MK Dons hang onto their standing inside the play-offs, but a 4-3 defeat to Carlisle in a thrilling encounter at stadium:mk means they have now lost three games on the bounce.

Walsall piled more misery on Oldham, who have now won just one of their last eight fixtures, as they claimed a 3-0 win on home soil.

Millwall's positive strides up the third tier rankings were momentarily halted, with a David Martin penalty cancelled out by Exeter's Adam Stansfield at St James Park.

Gillingham were victorious by virtue of a first-half spot-kick, with Simeon Jackson's strike seeing off Yeovil.

Southampton are now just a point away from clambering out of the relegation zone after an Adam Lallana brace helped them to a 3-1 victory away at Hartlepool.

Wycombe are also edging towards safety, with a 1-0 victory over Brentford at Adams Park handing them back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Tranmere remain rooted to the foot of the table, but proved too strong for inconsistent Southend at Prenton Park as they claimed a much-needed 2-0 success.
