Stockport expect a busy summer ahead as the club plan to bounce back to League Two from non-league football next season.

Last week 11 players were released by new manager Ray Mathias, while five have been offered new contracts including midfielder Greg Tansey - linked with a move to the Scottish Premier League.

Matt Glennon, Mark Lynch, Matty Mainwaring and Cameron Darkwah are the only players sure to be at the club when the new season begins, and Mathias is aware of the task ahead.

"The expectation is to get back into the Football League," he told the Manchester Evening News. "I came here to try and help Stockport stay in League Two and I've been given the honour of trying to take them back into League Two and hopefully we can achieve that.

"It's a big ask. We've got to bring players in. You've got to try to attract the best possible players, maybe League players who are coming down to the Conference. It's a big drop for them really."

The Hatters' chief executive Graham Shaw added: "We've offered contracts to a small number of players but if they aren't accepted Ray will have to find an almost entirely new squad. I haven't got any numbers in mind."
