Notts County manager Martin Allen has followed up the signing of Jeff Hughes by bringing in his son Charlie from Dagenham & Redbridge.

The teenage midfielder had yet to make the breakthrough at Dagenham and spent a spell with Billericay Town last season.

He was wanted by several clubs, but Magpies boss Allen is confident the 19-year-old is capable of making an impact at Meadow Lane.

"We've signed Charlie Allen, a 19-year-old midfield player," Allen snr told the club's official website.

"Charlie's been playing at Dagenham & Redbridge last year and he's a player that I've watched for several years in his development.

"He comes from good bloodstock in his family and he's hopefully one for the future for this club and one of a number of good young players that we've got here.

"There were several clubs in the London area interested in taking Charlie for the season ahead and Charlie's decided to come to Notts County, which I'm delighted about because he did have the choice of several clubs that he could have gone to, so it's a good signing for our club and, as I say, hopefully he'll be a good one for the future."
