Mehmet: Still on trial at Meadow Lane
Notts County boss Martin Allen is yet to decide whether to offer trialist Billy Mehmet a contract with the club.
The former St Mirren striker is a free agent and featured in the club's pre-season friendly win at Maidenhead on Monday.
Mehmet, 27, spent time at Turkish side Genclerbirligi last season, where his wage was reportedly much higher than the average League One player.
Wage demands are unlikely to be problematic, though, but Allen was coy over a potential permanent offer after Mehmet saw a move to Hearts fall through.
He told the Nottingham Evening Post: "We'll have to see. Billy is a good player. He's had a good career and has a good scoring record.
"He's not got a club so he could come cheap," he added. "He's probably earned bundles of cash, I don't know.
"We will have to have a chat with Billy to see how it goes."
Meanwhile, club captain Neal Bishop is facing a race against time to feature in County's league opener against Carlisle on Saturday, but Allen is in no rush to make a decision.
"He's an outstanding player and an outstanding captain so we'll leave a decision on him as late as possible," he said.
"He was magnificent for us at the end of last season and we need him playing."
