Charlton continued their good start to the season as they beat local rivals Colchester 2-0 to keep their place at the top of the table.

Bradley Wright-Phillips grabbed a first-half brace for the Addicks to make it three wins out of three for manager Chris Powell as he looks to take the club back into the second tier.

Sheffield United completed a brilliant comeback against Walsall to keep their 100% record, coming from two goals behind early in the second half to win 3-2 in a terrific game at Bramall Lane.

Richard Cresswell bagged the winner from the spot for the home team, who now have three wins out of three and lie in second place.

Pre-season favourites Sheffield Wednesday again failed to impress, losing 2-1 at Bury in a defeat that leaves them with just three points form their first three games.

Ryan Lowe got the opening goal for the Shakers in the seventh minute, and Damien Mozika added a second four minutes before half time to put the home side in firm control, despite a reply from Chris Sedgwick early in the second half.

Tranmere, who had won their opening games, could not win their third on the bounce as they lost 3-2 at Notts County despite taking the lead in the first half.

The winner came in the final minute for the Magpies thanks to Jeff Hughes' converted spot kick to give the home team all three points.

MK Dons got their second win of the season at Yeovil, with striker Sam Baldock's 10th minute goal enough to clinch a 1-0 victory and move his team up to third place.

Stevenage continued their good start to life in the third tier with a 3-1 win at Bournemouth, leaving them unbeaten in the division so far and securing their first three points after drawing the previous two games.

Preston win

Preston got their first win of the season at League Two champions Chesterfield, with goals from Clarke Carlisle and Barry Nicholson enough to secure a 2-0 win for Phil Brown's team.

Wycombe also got their first win with a 3-1 victory at pointless Leyton Orient to move them into the top half.

The Chairboys went in front thanks to Ben Strevens early on, but despite an equaliser from Dean Cox shortly after, Scott Donnelly and Joel Grant made things safe for the visitors and left Orient rooted to the bottom.

Oldham, who were propping up the table, managed a good win at Scunthorpe, who were relegated from the Championship last season, to get their first points on the board.

Substitute Mathieu Smith got the all-important winner for the Latics with just eight minutes remaining in their 2-1 victory at Glanford Park.

Brentford managed a 2-1 victory at winless Exeter thanks to a James Dunne own goal and a Clayton Donaldson strike, despite a second half reply from Guillem Bauza from the spot.

Rochdale and Carlisle shared the points at Spotland as their match finished goalless.

Another goalless draw came at Hartlepool's Victoria Park as last season's play-off finalists Huddersfield failed to win in their third draw so far.
