Notts County striker Ben Burgess has been taken off the transfer list by manager Martin Allen.

The 29-year-old endured a difficult season at Meadow Lane last year, with just eight league starts producing only one goal. It looked like he would be on his way out of the club this summer, especially when he was made available by Allen in May.

However, Burgess has worked hard to get himself in shape and Allen was impressed with his performance in the 3-1 home win over Bournemouth on Saturday on his return from a hamstring problem.

"I have had a chat with Ben and he is now off the transfer list," Allen told the club's official website. "Ben is happy and I am quite happy.

"He has trained every day right through the summer and you could see it when he came back for pre-season. You could see from his physique. He has lost over a stone in weight, which is quite commendable.

"It was a blow when he pulled his hamstring in pre-season but on Saturday you could see what a threat he is, his awareness and what he brings to the team and club. What a partnership him and Lee Hughes looked."
