Bury captain Dave Challinor has denied speculation that he has signed for another club.

The 29-year-old, who joined The Shakers from Stockport County last summer, was responding to internet reports that suggested he had signed a pre-contract deal with a League Two rival.

Some reports have suggested that the former Tranmere Rovers defender penned a deal with Chester City.

However, Challinor has refuted claims that he is set to move away from Gigg Lane at the season's end.

"I've been told about this message over the weekend, I can - hand on heart - say that I know nothing about this," Challinor told the club's official website.

"If I had signed for anyone else, the first person to know would be the manager here at Bury.

"As regards to plans for next season, I hope to sit down with Bury in the near future and sort it out, along with the other lads that are out of contract."
