Doncaster must pay Bury up to £180,000 in compensation for the services of midfielder Kyle Bennett.
The 20-year-old was offered a new deal at Gigg Lane at the end of last season but opted for a move to Rovers.
A tribunal decided £40,000 will be paid to the Shakers immediately with a further £40,000 to follow in January.
Rovers must then pay £25,000 after 15 appearances, £25,000 after 30 appearances, £25,000 after 45 appearances and a further £25,000 after 60 appearances.
The tribunal panel also placed a 20% transfer sell-on clause should Bennett be sold to another club.
