Bury boss Richie Barker could not hide his disappointment after his side were thumped 4-2 at home by derby rivals Rochdale.
The goals flowed at Gigg Lane as the visitors raced into an early 3-0 lead courtesy of Ashley Grimes, Marcus Holness and Bury old-boy Nicky Adams, who was later sent off after picking up a second yellow card.
David Ball added a fourth Rochdale goal shortly after half-time, while Bury's consolation strikes came from Mike Jones and Andy Bishop.
Barker said: "It's been a hugely disappointing afternoon all round for us. I must admit I felt good and really positive going into it, but maybe the occasion got to one or two players.
"And it was a big occasion. The fans have flocked here and at least they've seen the players put plenty of effort and endeavour in.
"That's all I can ask for I suppose. We'll have to get over this quickly, though."
