Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson says securing long-term deals for his squad instead of bringing in new faces is the best way to spend money.

The Silkmen received some substantial payments for transfers in the summer, including the sales of Tyrone Barnett to Crawley and Emile Sinclair to Peterborough, but Simpson insists he is not going to sign players for the sake of it.

He told the club's official website: "People think that just because we have received a couple of transfer fees we are going to rush in and buy the first player that comes our way. That's not going to happen.

"The deal has to be right and the player has to improve on what we already have at the club.

I am relatively happy with the strength of our squad, assuming they all stay fit."

"I think it's also right that we should keep faith in the current squad. One of the problems the club has had in recent years has been maintaining some form of continuity.

"I am speaking to the directors about using some of this money to reward some of the current squad with new and improved deals. I think that's the right thing to do and hopefully we'll have some news on that front in the next day or two."
