Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson insists any sympathy will be put on hold when the Silkmen visit Plymouth on Saturday.

While Simpson feels sorry for the players and staff at Home Park during the Pilgrims' ongoing financial difficulties, he is confident that his team can turn in a professional and ruthless performance as they aim to take three points from the south coast.

"We've got to go there with the right mental attitude," Simpson told the Manchester Evening News. "Plymouth have got some good players and they'll be upping their endeavour now that, rightly or wrongly, they've sacked the manager (Peter Reid).

"They've had their troubles and it's a bad mental state to be in when you're not being paid. Some of these lads have families and mortgages and it's obviously a big thing to have on your mind. But, without a shadow of a doubt we've got to be ruthless.

"They want to fill the place and you'd imagine their minds and attitudes will see them have a good go. Their spirit and endeavour will be upped and we've got to be up for the fight, match them and hopefully they'll shine through.

"The change of manager came at the wrong time for us, but then we've only faced teams in form so far this season."
