Gareth Southgate insists Middlesbrough have received no approaches for young winger Adam Johnson.

Reports have claimed that Queens Park Rangers and Scottish giants Rangers are both interested in signing the 20-year-old.

Johnson, who spent a spell on loan at Watford last season, is still trying to force his way into Southgate's side on a regular basis.

But the Boro boss sees Johnson as a key player for the future and has denied fielding any enquiries for the England Under 21 international.

Fantastic talent

"Despite what has appeared in some papers we have not had a single approach from any club about Adam Johnson," Southgate told the Evening Gazette.

"We have had absolutely no contact about Adam from either Rangers or QPR, nor do we expect to have any.

"As I have made it clear, he remains a big part in my plans for the club.

"Adam is a fantastic talent and I do not want to see him leave.

"He could be very, very special and I would not want to see him play for another club."
