Shittu: Linked with Scottish giants

Watford chairman Graham Simpson insists the Hornets have no intention of selling Danny Shittu despite reported interest from Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers.

Shittu has been linked with each of the Old Firm rivals while Simpson confirmed Premier League interest in the imposing defender, although Watford are yet to receive any firm offers for the 27-year-old.

The Nigeria international has become a key player of Aidy Boothroyd's side since his £1.6million move from QPR in 2006.

The former Charlton trainee is set to return for pre-season training with the rest of the Hornets' squad on Monday and Simpson expects him to remain at Vicarage Road come the start of the season.

"We have had inquiries from Premier League clubs but no offers for Danny," Simpson told BBC Sport.

"Danny is still with us and that's the way it is staying."

Antal deal

Meanwhile, Hungarian goalkeeper Botond Antal will sign a professional contract with Watford when he turns 17 on 22nd August.

The Hornets fought off competition to lure the youngster from Ujpest FC last year and he played for the reserves in their final five games of last season.

"Last year I had to choose between Nottingham Forest, Reading or Watford and I chose my present team because I thought I would be able to develop the most here and I don't regret it," Antal told Nemzeti Sport.

"This contract is a new chance for me. I want to prove my abilities, get closer to the first team and then step forward."
