Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has confirmed his interest in Celtic defender Bobo Balde.

Balde does not figure in Gordon Strachan's plans for the new season and has been made available on a free transfer.

Birmingham and Sunderland have both been linked with the 32-year-old, who has been at Parkhead since 2001.

However, Magilton is hoping to fight off the competition and clinch Balde's signature.

"Bobo has been made available by Celtic and we would like a conversation with him," Magilton told the Ipswich Evening Star.

"If we can get him down and have a chat then we would like to, but it would be down to him and his advisors.

"I know Birmingham are very interested, but we have shown our interest so if we can get him here for a chat then you never know."
