Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has responded in typically dry humour to the latest controversy surrounding his goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Boruc was photographed in Poland drinking and smoking cigars with friends whilst recuperating from injury last week.

The photos provoked tabloid headlines in both Poland and Scotland, but Strachan has been quick to defend his keeper, insisting that Boruc was simply living his life outside of the game as he sees fit.

"It was his weekend off. He can do what he wants," remarked the Hoops manager when quizzed at the club's weekly press conference.

"Do you spend time with your girlfriend? Do you go to the cinema with her? Would you like to kiss her now and then? That's what Artur has done.

"I still go to the cinema with my wife. I still kiss her. She doesn't like it, but there you go."

Never rules broken

Boruc is no stranger to controversy, having been left of the Poland squad for their World Cup qualifiers after breaching disciplinary rules, and recently picking up a £500 fine for gestures made to Rangers fans during the Old Firm derby last month.

But Strachan is adamant that he will not be reprimanding Boruc as he has done nothing that falls in defiance of club policy.

"He's training so I don't have a problem with it," said the Scot of his keeper's antics.

"He never broke any rules and never broke any guidelines.

"It might be nice if he did have a beer now and then - it might just loosen him up a wee bit."
