Sone Aluko is ignoring Aberdeen's request to return and have his fitness assessed ahead of the Under-20 World Cup.

Aluko linked up with his Nigerian team-mates in Spain following the Dons' goalless draw at Falkirk on Monday night.

The 20-year-old has only just returned to action for Mark McGhee's side and he was in two minds whether the youngster was fit enough to take part in the tournament.

Aberdeen requested he return so that his fitness could be assessed, however, Aluko would rather stay with his team-mates after self-certifying himself.

"I want to play in the World Cup and just want my wish to be respected," explained Aluko.

Feel good

"I feel good and I'm ready to join the team."

McGhee is clearly maintaining a calm stance, insisting the winger return to the club to be evaluated in order for the club to make a decision.

"Sone has still to return here and discuss what has happened," said McGhee. "Until he does there is little more to be said.

"We want him to come back and prove his fitness before a decision is made on whether he'll be allowed to go to the World Cup."
