Hibernian manager John Hughes has revealed he would be extremely interested in joining Jim Jefferies in a new Scotland set-up.

The Hibs boss has already come out in support of Jefferies and thinks the Kilmarnock manager should take up the national reins following the departure of George Burley on Monday.

Jefferies has expressed his pleasure at being linked with the Tartan Army post, and Hughes has now revealed that he would not have to think twice about joining him.

When asked if he would like to be Jefferies' number two, he said: "Certainly.

"That will be something that might interest me, or if anybody else takes over.

"I'd like to get in that environment and get in doing a bit of coaching and working and watching how it gets done at that stage, for me as well, for my future development.

"I'd be there in a shot."

Hughes played under Jefferies during his career at Falkirk, and a potential link-up is one of a number of options the Scottish Football Association has as it searches for a new coach.

Killie manager Jefferies refused to comment on speculation but did admit to being flattered by the link.

"What I've said many a time when I get linked with a job, whether it's the Scotland job or any other job, I never comment on that," he said.

"I have been linked and (it is) very flattering."
