Skysports.com understands Celtic are close to tying up a deal for Bayern Munich full-back Edson Braafheid.

The Holland international only moved to the Allianz Arena from FC Twente last summer, but has struggled to settle in Germany.

The 26-year-old could therefore find himself on the move once again during the January transfer window.

Celtic are keen to take him to Parkhead, after leaving themselves short at left-back following the sale of Danny Fox to Burnley.

The Hoops could, however, face competition for Braafheid's signature from Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, who both expressed an interest in the summer.

Skysports.com understands it is the Hoops, though, who are leading the chase and are confident of reaching an agreement with Bayern.

Tony Mowbray's men are believed to be in advanced talks with the player and he could jet into Glasgow onto Monday to finalise a move.
