Michael McGlinchey is delighted to be playing in the SPL again and is determined to impress at Fir Park.

The New Zealand international is currently on loan from A-League's Central Coast Mariners until the end of the season as he prepares himself for the World Cup finals in June.

A former Celtic trainee, the 23-year-old is desperate to prove his doubters wrong and make his second spell in Scotland a successful one.

"When I left Celtic last summer I was desperate to prove myself and I had to go all the way to Australia to do that," he told the Daily Record.

"I thank Mariners for giving me the chance and allowing me to get this deal with Motherwell sorted out.

"It's amazing that I find myself back in Scotland so soon after leaving last summer."

The former Scotland youth international admitted he lacked confidence during his forgettable spell at Parkhead, but believes he will be a changed man under Well boss Craig Brown.

"I've had my confidence lifted by playing for a manager who believes in me and hopefully I can bring that confidence to Motherwell. My first game is against Rangers at Fir Park and I can't wait to get started," McGlinchey added.

"Coming to Scotland during the Australian close-season is the perfect way for me to try to keep my career moving along."
