Defender Glenn Loovens claims Celtic now have enough firepower of their own to reclaim the Scottish Premier League.

The Dutchman's reaction comes in the wake of Rangers striker Kenny Miller's claims that the champions possess 'enough firepower to go and win this league.'

The Blue half of Glasgow currently hold a 10-point lead in the title race and boast a goal difference which doubles their city rivals Celtic's.

However, in a desperate attempt to salvage his faltering debut season in charge, boss Tony Mowbray drafted in three new strikers in the January transfer window.

This included the high-profile deadline day double loan signing of Tottenham's Robbie Keane and Fulham's Diomansy Kamara, plus Danish buy Morten Rasmussen.

All three have already got off the mark at their new club, and Loovens has set his sights on cutting down the deficit at the top of the table.

"I don't really agree with that," he said of former Bhoy Miller's quote.

"We have some great strikers. If you have seen our recent games then you will have seen the chances we have created.

"It's just for us to wait for that one game where it all clicks and they will all go in.

"There are still 15 or 16 games so there are plenty of points to play for. We have to play Rangers twice so we will see.

"But we need to make sure we get a run going and don't drop any more points."

25-year-old Rasmussen cost around £3.5million from Brondby and has scored twice in his first three appearances, and Loovens feels he offers the Bhoys a different dimension.

"All he needs is to score goals and so far he has done that," said Loovens of his new team-mate.

"Rasmussen is a different type of player, he is a big strong guy, who has a nose for goals. He is always in the penalty box where you need to be to score goals.

"We don't score many scrappy goals but we scored one on Sunday (at Dunfermline). He has a feeling for that and it is a quality that we have lacked."

The Old Firm meet again at the end of the month and boss Mowbray insists they will not be affected by the gap between them in the build up to the Ibrox clash.

"It's not a concern at all," said the former Hibernian boss. "We could win every game up to then and the lead might not be cut.

"We have just got to try and win our football matches. We can't affect what other teams do until we play them so at this moment we have to look after ourselves and try to get the points."
