South Korea captain Park Ji-sung has backed compatriot Ki Sung-yeung to become a regular starter at Celtic.

And the Manchester United midfielder also believes that Ki is good enough to make an impact in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has been heavily involved in first-team duties since joining the Parkhead outfit in January, but many of his appearances have been from the bench.

Park has no doubts that Ki will eventually become an SPL star and also thinks he has the ability to shine in England's top tier.

Impact

"He could make an impact in England too. I know him. He has ability and talent," the former PSV player said after South Korea's 2-0 friendly win over the Ivory Coast.

"He needs more chances to play. Sometimes he plays, other times he doesn't. It is quite difficult.

"Once he gets over that, he will show what he has got."

Park continued to give Ki a huge billing as he compared his style of play to that of Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard.

"He is good at passing. His playing style is like Steven Gerrard. He is tall, he likes to do long passes, he can shoot," the 29-year-old added.

"I hope he improves a lot and he shows his ability."
